After two wins against the Red Sox, and a victory in the series opener against Baltimore last night, the Yankees hand the ball to Luis Severino seeking a fourth straight win.

Severino pitched well in his last start against Toronto, but made one fatal mistake when Justin Smoak hit a hanging slider for a game-tying two run home run. He was handed a no-decision in that start. The 23-year-old right-hander has not allowed more than two runs in a start since May 14, and he comes into tonight’s game with a slim 2.90 ERA. He pitched May 30 in Baltimore, allowing just one run in 6⅓ innings.

Chris Tillman was Severino’s counterpart in that May 30 matchup. The Yankees hit Tillman hard in his 2⅔ innings, as he allowed seven earned runs and three home runs. Tillman hasn’t won a start since May 7 against the Chicago White Sox. He hasn’t given up less than three runs in a start yet in 2017.

The Yankees return to their usual alignment after playing Matt Holliday at first base Friday to give Gary Sánchez a turn at designated hitter. Sánchez catches tonight, Holliday reverts to DH and Chris Carter gets the call at first base. Presumably, Austin Romine starts tomorrow behind the plate in the day game after night game scenario.

Manny Machado‘s sore left wrist will keep in out of the lineup yet again tonight. Rubén Tejada, recently acquired from the Yankees, starts at the hot corner again after collecting two hits last night. Machado left the O’s June 7 matchup after Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen spiked the wrist on a slide into third base. It is unclear if he would be available off the bench.
