Game 60: Green Goes for Sweep of Orioles

Righty Chad Green makes his first start of the season as the Yankees look to sweep the scuffling Baltimore Orioles.

Green has been serving as the long-man in the Yankees bullpen this season. In seven games, he has pitched to a 1.62 ERA. He gets the start after the Yankees decided to push back Masahiro Tanaka to the series opener against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday.

Green has started in the past, but has maxed out at 48 pitches out of the bullpen. Green said he would be able to give the team a bit more length than that. The Yankees recalled righty Domingo Germán from AAA as a bullpen reinforcement.

Countering for the Orioles is righty Kevin Gausman. The fourth overall pick in the 2012 draft, he has faced the Bombers three times already this season. The O’s have won two of those games, the other being the wild 14-11 comeback win by New York. The right-hander got a no-decision his last time out against Pittsburgh, allowing four runs on eight hits in 6⅔ innings (the Orioles won, however, in the 10th inning).

The O’s are still without third baseman Manny Machado. His sore wrist will keep him out of his fourth consecutive game. Still, the team has decided to not place him on the disabled list, opting to play with a 24-man roster. Ronald Torreyes gets the start for the Yankees at the hot corner over Chase Headley, as the former hits .333 off Gausman. Headley, by contrast, has a .200 clip in an identical sample size.
