UPDATE (11:58 p.m. ET): YES Network’s Meredith Marakovits reports via Twitter that the injury is officially a strained left hamstring.
In the middle of a personal five-game winning streak, Yankees’ lefty CC Sabathia was removed after completing the fourth inning after visibly grabbing his left leg during the inning. The Yankees have not offered an official explanation for the removal just yet.
Sabathia required just eight pitches to retire the first two batters of the inning. But, Chris Carter inexplicably missed Didi Gregorius‘s throw to first when Andrelton Simmons hit a routine ground ball. That play should have ended the inning. The following batter singled as the unearned run scored.
Once the final out was recorded by a caught stealing at second base, Sabathia was seen visibly irritated while on his way to the clubhouse with an athletic trainer. He was replaced by Giovanny Gallegos in the bottom of the fifth.
This is a developing story. Please stay tuned for updates.
