Game 64: Yankees Look to Continue Success Against Athletics

Jordan Montgomery gets the nod on the mound as the Yankees come to Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum to battle the Oakland Athletics.

The Yankees have already won a series against the Athletics this season. Rookie lefty Montgomery did not pitch in that first series. However, he has thrown to a 3.55 ERA and has 61 strikeouts through 63⅓ innings so far in 2017. He won his last start behind seven innings of two run ball on June 9 against Baltimore.

The Yankees get their first look at Athletics ace Sonny Gray tonight. Gray has a 1-2 record and a 4.44 ERA in his career against the Yankees. After starting the season on the disabled list, Gray has made eight starts with a 4.37 ERA. He has not received a decision in June, but has a 3.46 ERA this month.

Gary Sánchez gets the half-night off as the designated hitter. Matt Holliday sits and Austin Romine does the catching. The Yankees will get their first look at Athletics premier prospect Matt Chapman, who makes his MLB debut batting seventh and playing third base.
