After snapping a seven-game losing streak last night, the Yankees have the chance to close out their season series against the Los Angeles Angels with a win.

On the mound for the Bronx Bombers is right-hander Luis Severino. After struggling in the rotation last year, Severino has put together an impressive season thus far. A 5-2 record accompanied by a 2.99 ERA shows his marked improvement. His 3.24 FIP is the best among Yankee starters. He hasn’t lost since May 1, and looks to get his first win since June 10 tonight.

Right-hander Jesse Chavez takes the hill for the Angels in the rubber game. Chavez began his career as a reliever, but started 21 games for the Oakland Athletics in 2014. The Blue Jays and Dodgers used him exclusively out of the bullpen in 2016, but he has returned to the rotation for the Angels. Through 14 starts, he is 5-6 with a 4.57 ERA. He took the loss his last time out June 16 against Kansas City, allowing just two runs on nine hits through seven innings.

Chase Headley gets the night off after playing nine straight games. During that time, he slashed .333/.462/.467. Ronald Torreyes, who slashes .299/.318/.383 when in the starting lineup this season, will bat ninth and man the hot corner.

Chris Carter returns to the Yankee lineup after being benched yesterday. He has been widely criticized in the media for not living up to expectations, and the strong performance by Tyler Austin at AAA certainly puts him on the hot seat.

Prior to the game, the Yankees bolstered their bullpen by selecting the contract of left-handed pitcher Tyler Webb from AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Utility man Rob Refsnyder was optioned back to the RailRiders. Webb gives the Yankees a second lefty option on top of Chasen Shreve after veteran Tommy Layne was outrighted.
