On the day where baseball’s winningest franchise celebrates some of its best players, the Yankees need to take this series finale from the Texas Rangers.

The team is 2-8 in their last 10 games, which is a far cry from their run destroying American League East opponents. They send Michael Pineda to the mound in this important finale. He battled through 5⅔ innings with an iffy fastball last time out, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits. Through five career starts against the Rangers, he has a 4.35 ERA.

Nick Martinez gets the call for the Rangers. Martinez has a 2.08 ERA in the Bronx, but each left-handed hitter in the Yankee lineup with the exception of Mason Williams has homered off of him. Martinez hasn’t lost since May 25, and has a 3.60 ERA since then in three starts and one mop-up relief appearance.

Chase Headley‘s back is finally healthy, and he returns to the lineup in the No. 6 slot. Starlin Castro gets the day off, and Ronald Torreyes starts his third consecutive game at second base. Matt Holliday gets today off too, with Williams shifting to right field and Aaron Judge manning the designated hitter spot. That puts Gary Sánchez in the cleanup spot, where he is 2-for-3 with a homer and an RBI in one career game.

Jacoby Ellsbury began his rehab assignment last night for AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He has been out for a while, so he only received three plate appearances and five innings in center field. He went 1-for-3 with a double before being replaced. Ellsbury also reached on a fielder’s choice in the first inning, and stole a base.
