Game 77: Cessa’s Last Turn

With CC Sabathia throwing a simulated game and expressing hope that he’d be back in the rotation soon, Luis Cessa makes what might be his last start in that spot.

He hasn’t had much luck in his two starts, as he is 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA. The 25-year-old allowed three runs through five innings June 24 against Texas. He did, however, strike out eight Rangers.

James Shields will start for the White Sox. In his career, he is 11-16 with a 4.12 ERA in 32 starts against the Yankees. He got roughed up his last time out, allowing seven runs through three innings.

Dustin Fowler makes his MLB debut in right field, and batting sixth. Austin Romine gets another start at first base. Tyler Wade is in the lineup again, this time at second base. Ronald Torreyes covers the hot corner.

Chris Carter is on the bench after the Yankees optioned Miguel Andújar.
