“I’m super happy. To have the opportunity to contribute and have the team win…” Andújar said through interpreter Marlon Abreu. “This is my dream come true.”
Masahiro Tanaka threw six innings, allowing just two runs on six hits. He struck out five batters and walked two. It was the second straight quality start for the Yankee right-hander. The Yankee bullpen allowed just two hits and one walk in relief.
The Yankees got an RBI apiece from Brett Gardner, Ronald Torreyes and Tyler Wade. Didi Gregorius and Aaron Judge each drove in two runners. Andújar is the first Yankee ever with three hits and three RBI in his MLB debut. Judge also hit his MLB-leading 27th home run in sixth inning.Embed from Getty Images
The Yankees go for the series win tomorrow night at 8:10 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time behind Luis Cessa.
There is rampant speculation surrounding minor league outfielder Dustin Fowler. He was removed quickly from a resumed game suspended in the International League last night. He was not in the lineup for the originally scheduled game, but was visible in the dugout for the entire time. Fowler has been long considered a good outfield prospect, and is either on his way to the big league club or to someone else in the trade. Scranton’s manager Al Pedrique said it was “out of [his] hands” and that we would know “tomorrow”.
