Two Yankees farmhands saw the field during Thursday’s game for the Scottsdale Scorpions: RF Estevan Florial and 2B Kyle Holder.
Here’s how those Baby Bombers did:
- Florial: 1-for-4, 2 K
- Holder: 1-for-4, 2B, 1 K
Florial, who has logged just 19 games above Low-A, has shown flashes of why he is the Yankees No. 3 prospect. He’s currently slashing .289/.396/.400 through 12 games after finishing the 2017 season with a combined .298/.372/.479 line between Low-A Charleston and High-A Tampa. Florial also saw two games’ worth of action for Double-A Trenton during the Eastern League playoffs, going 1-for-4 with three strikeouts.
Holder has seen less action in the AFL, with just eight games under his belt. However, he has taken advantage of the playing time he has gotten. He currently maintains a .375/.400/.563 line with one home run and five RBIs. Holder spent all of 2017 with High-A Tampa, where he hit .271/.317/.350 with four home runs and 44 RBIs.
While inactive Thursday, Billy McKinney lost his grip on the RBI lead in the AFL. Sheldon Neuse, the Oakland A’s No. 14 prospect, tied the Yankee OF/1B with his 18th RBI of the season for the Mesa Solar Sox.
Three Yankees are in the Scottsdale starting lineup for their matchup with Mesa: CF Estevan Florial will be leading off, Billy McKinney will bat fourth and play first base and Thairo Estrada bats seventh and starts at shortstop.
