After just three games and a few lackluster efforts, an MRI revealed Gary Sánchez re-aggravated his right groin strain. He was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday, and Kyle Higashioka was recalled.
Sánchez did not hustle after a passed ball on Monday night in Tampa Bay, where he apparently re-injured the groin. In the ninth inning of the same game, he did not run at full-speed to first base on a ground ball where the tying run could have scored.
Sánchez originally hurt the muscle June 24 in Tampa Bay (funnily enough 🙄) and missed 20 games as a result. He went 2-for-14 (.143/.143/.143, -33 wRC+) in his return.
Higashioka returns after a 5-for-30 stint in the bigs when Sánchez was originally sidelined. Four of those five hits went for extra bases, however, giving Higgy a .167/.242/.500 (96 wRC+) line.
Boone said to expect Sánchez to be down for another three to four weeks.
