The Yankees have added to their catching depth, as Matt Eddy of Baseball America has reported that Jorge Saez will return to the organization on a minor-league deal. The contract likely includes an invitation to Spring Training.
Saez was in Tampa with the Yankees in the past, appearing in 23 games between 2017 and 2018. He was selected from the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2016 Triple-A portion of the Rule 5 draft. He saw most of his action last year, batting .263/.364/.421 with a homer and five RBIs in 17 games.
After Spring Training, Saez was assigned to Double-A Trenton, where he hit .237/.324/.362 (94 wRC+) with five home runs and 19 RBIs in 47 games. He dealt with a left-hand injury and mild concussion-like symptoms in 2018, which led to three different disabled list stints.
