The Yankees announced today that they will be carrying 61 players into camp this year, as they announced their massive crop of 21 non-roster invitee players. Eight are players controlled by the Yankees who are not on the 40-man roster, while the other 13 were either signed or re-signed to minor-league contracts and invited to participate in Tampa.

Here’s the list:

I have to say: it feels like a lot of these names are coming into Yankees camp knowing they won’t be heading north with the big-league squad. At least, that’s what the Yankees are hoping for. The battles in camp appear to be for the last bench spot, as well as for the final two places in the bullpen. Other than that, they’re hoping to get their young talents some important playing time against other MLB-caliber talent.

All eyes will likely be on Florial, the Yankees No. 1 prospect. He provides a tantalizing combination of power and speed, though his ability to make consistent contact is the only thing stopping the 21-year-old from being a 5-tool stud.

The league will also be watching Farquhar, who is beginning his comeback from a brain hemorrhage with the Yankees. He pitched in eight games for the Chicago White Sox before collapsing in their dugout in April 2018.
